10 Schools Receive Awards at Closing Ceremony for ‘It’s Elementary!’

HIGHLAND VILLAGE, Texas Nov. 10, 2011 – Ten local elementary schools received more than $10,000 in donations Tuesday night as The Shops at Highland Village concluded its inaugural school rewards program, “It’s Elementary!” Representatives from each school attended the awards ceremony to claim oversized checks that will benefit nearly 6,500 students.

The first-place winner, Heritage Elementary, received $3,000, while second-place Blanton Elementary was awarded $2,000. Third- through fifth-place winners Flower Mound Elementary, McAuliffe Elementary and Liberty Elementary each received $1,000. And fifth through 10th place, which included Highland Village Elementary, Prairie Trail Elementary, Wellington Elementary, Valley Ridge Elementary and Vickery Elementary respectively, each earned $500.

“We couldn’t be more pleased at the community’s support for ‘It’s Elementary!’” said Kelly Smith, consumer marketing manager for The Shops at Highland Village. “With the help of our customers, this effort to lend support to our children’s schools became a success."

Announced in an after-school ceremony at The Shops at Highland Village on Nov. 8, the final rankings followed a two-month fundraiser that converted consumer purchases at the shopping center into points for participating schools. From Aug. 19 to Oct. 16, the program allowed customers making a purchase at The Shops at Highland Village to donate their receipts to one of 10 local elementary schools.
