2nd Annual Haunts and Hounds event at The Shops at Highland Village, Oct. 29
- Halloween spooktacular to benefit Southern Denton County Neighbor to Neighbor -
HIGHLAND VILLAGE, Texas – October 5, 2011 – Costumed canines, lovely princesses and scary werewolves are just some of the costumes you may see at The Shops at Highland Village’s 2nd Annual Haunts and Hounds. Full of Halloween festivities and a costume contest, the event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The family-friendly celebration is free and open to the public.
Haunts and Hounds benefits Southern Denton County Neighbor to Neighbor, a local non-profit organization supporting area social service agencies that offer emergency assistance, family counseling, medical support and youth development programs.
Those wishing to partake in the costume contest should arrive early to register between 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. in the courtyard area between Blue Goose Cantina and Rockfish Seafood Grill. Prizes will be awarded for Best Child Costume (12 years old or younger) and Most Creative Child Costume (12 years old or younger). Prizes will also be awarded for canine entries including Best Canine Costume (25 lbs. or under), Best Canine Costume (26 lbs. or over), and Best Canine - Owner Costume Combination.
After the contest, there will be children"s activities including The Monster Bash, a family-friendly Halloween Show. Characters will come to life in a high-energy, musical comedy with song, dance and interactive fun. Free trick-or-treating for children in costume who are 12 years old or younger will follow the show.

“We’re pleased to offer fun activities for all ages with live entertainment, treat-or-treating and the costume contest. Last year, hundreds of families stopped by to enjoy the festivities, and we expect it’s going to be another great event,” said Kelly Smith, consumer marketing manager for the center. “The Shops at Highland Village believes in supporting Southern Denton County Neighbor to Neighbor. We are hosting the Halloween party to help a nonprofit that aids our community in so many ways.”
